Woodsman have the tools to help determine tree root locations, allowing for safe non damaging excavations near trees where necessary.
Root Detector
We have a Fakopp Root Detector. This is used for determining the location of roots. Sound velocity measurements are made between the trunk and soil sensors. The evidence provided can aid in the avoidance of major roots where excavations are necessary, avoiding damage to major roots where screw or driven piles are used for constructions.
Air Spade Services
The use of an air spade can allow for safe non damaging excavation near trees. High pressure air disperses soil and rocks without damage to fine roots or underground utilities. The air spade is particularly useful for excavations in areas containing services or tree roots, which could be damaged by conventional digging.
The air spade can be used for:
- Safe non-damaging root excavations.
- Root collar examination.
- Excavation for utilities service runs.
- Excavation for root bridging foundations and mini piles.
- Demonstrating the lack of significant roots to encroach on the indicative root protection areas of trees on potential development sites.
- Soil de-compaction and amelioration. Soil compacted by either storage of heavy materials, vehicles or pedestrian access reduces the ability of water to move through the soil. This restricts oxygen and water, resulting in poor growing conditions for roots.
- Air spades can loosen compacted soil. Mixing the loosened soil with a nutrient rich compost and filling the area back in, will improve the soil structure, nutrient levels and fertility.
- Excavation and transplanting of large amenity trees.
